Promethean gets a Face-Lift
All of us here at Promethius are tired of scrolling. In an attempt to make the Promethean more readable with less scrolling, we've updated our style. No more tiny columns.  Hopefully, this will make reading the Promethean easier. Feel free to let us know what you think about our new look.

CPU -Abbreviation of central processing unit, and pronounced as separate letters. The CPU is the brains of the computer. Sometimes referred to simply as the processor or central processor, the CPU is where most calculations take place. In terms of computing power, the CPU is the most important element of a computer system.

On large machines, CPUs require one or more printed circuit boards. On personal computers and small workstations, the CPU is housed in a single chip called a microprocessor.

Two typical components of a CPU are:
  • The arithmetic logic unit (ALU), which performs arithmetic and logical operations.

  • The control unit, which extracts instructions from memory and decodes and executes them, calling on the ALU when necessary.

Take care before upgrading your website

Are you planning to roll out exciting new website functionality any time soon? Maybe you have plans for online registrations, e-commerce, or interactive list serves, for example. While these are all exciting website features, you may want to take a step back and make sure you don’t have the cart before the horse. We always like to ask the following basic questions before moving forward with website upgrades:

1. How many people currently visit your website?
Make sure that you have a detailed understanding of the current usage statistics your website enjoys. If you discover that nobody ever finds your site, or that they get to your site but don’t stay for any period of time, you may want to address this basic issue before you invest in upgrades. You want to make sure that you are investing in features that people will actually use.

2. How will you promote your new features?
The days of “if you build it, they will come” are over. There are simply too many websites vying for attention these days. You need to be committed to aggressively promoting your new features to your client base. At the very least, plan on using print and email marketing to get the word out.

3. Are these features important to your client base?
Make sure to take at least a small survey of your clients before spending much time, energy and money on bells and whistles. You may find that your customers have unique behaviors and needs that your planned features won’t address. You may even get lucky and stumble upon a need that you hadn’t foreseen, but that you can fill.

If you have positive answers to these three questions, then by all means, move forward with the knowledge that you have thought through some of the basics!
